Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has once again secured the NBA's Most Valuable Player award, marking his third win in the last four years. This year, he outperformed other top contenders including Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, who finished behind him in the vote count.
This win places Jokic among an elite group of players, making him the first center since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to win three MVPs in such a short span. He also joins legends like Michael Jordan and LeBron James with at least three MVP titles.
In his ninth season, Jokic played 79 games, ranking in the top five for points, rebounds, and assists. His average stats included 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game, with significant shooting accuracy both from the field and three-point range.
🏀 NBA Lottery 1st Pick Odds
For the first time since 1975, the Atlanta Hawks sit atop the NBA Draft and will pick first this Summer. Pre-Draft odds showed that the Hawks most probable draft spot would be Pick #10. Even Hawks General Manager, Landry Fields", said, “it was a shock…bit of a surprise, but a lot of excitement”.
The Hawks had just a 3% shot at landing the top selection, the 5th lowest odds since the lottery era began. The Wizards, TrailBlazers, Hornets, and Pistons were the top four teams going in, Detroit finishing with the worst record in the league this past season, and ended up landing pick #5.
This draft cycle is becoming known for not having a consensus #1 pick to this point.
