š Indy 500 & Revolving Door of NFL OCs

Good Morning š
In todayās issue:
Indy 500 - Front Row
NFL Offensive Coordinators - Finding the Right One

šļø Team Penske Sits on the Pole
The Indianapolis 500, the āGreatest Spectacle in Racingā, takes place every Memorial Day Weekend. This Sunday, 33 drivers will take on the 200 lap, 500 mile race. One of the giants in the racing world is Roger Penske, who is a former driver himself and now team owner and owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Three of āThe Captaināsā (Roger Penskeās nickname) drivers are slated to start the Indy 500 1st, 2nd, & 3rd.
Josef Newgarden and Will Power, both former Indy 500 Champions, will start behind Scott McLaughlin who sits on the Pole and will start out leading the race. Per NBCSports.com, this is the first time in 36 years that the winningest team in IMS History, Team Penske, has swept the entire front row to start the Indianapolis 500.
Scott McLaughlin is the second 2nd New Zealander to win the Indy 500 pole.
The 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 goes green Sunday, 5/26, @ 12:45pm EST.

š The Demand for Offense in Todayās NFL
It seems like in the NFL today, prolific offense is what gets you hired, and stagnant offense is what gets you fired. The NFL wants high scores with stat lines that are through the roof and everyone hitting their O/U yardage props of their favorite players. QBs are on the move more than ever, star Wide Receivers get traded and sign elsewhere in free agency more than everā¦but players on the field arenāt the only ones who are changing logos on their polos. Coaches are too..specifically Offensive Coordinators.
With the exception of Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, who was hired in 2017 by the San Francisco 49ers and is their play caller, there isnāt a single team who has had an OC under contract longer than 3 years. Some of that stems from good OCs are getting head coaching gigs now forcing teams to replace them or offensive staffās are getting fired because they are too behind the times and havenāt been able to adapt successfully to the league today.
The target recipe that teamās in the league today are shooting for seems pretty simple: Find the up and coming Offensive Play Caller who has a history of success, hire them to be Head Coach, and donāt give them a chance to be hired away. And if not that, hire from within a coaching tree that is similar to what your team runs and build that way.
