🏀 The Start of Bill Walton’s Basketball Career at UCLA

College Basketball and NBA Legend Bill Walton passed away Monday from a battle with cancer at the age of 71. Not only known for his play on the floor, but later in life, his unique style in the broadcast booth, Walton was a larger than life personality who succeeded at every level of basketball.

Playing at UCLA under John Wooden, Walton had a stretch of three years beginning his sophomore season for the Bruins that no other Bruin has had since. Per NCAA.com, UCLA was 86-4 during Bill Walton's three years of college with the center starting his college career 73-0. Walton's only four losses came in his senior year (Notre Dame, Oregon State, Oregon and then NC State in the NCAA tournament).

In those three years, Walton never had a field goal percentage under 63.9% and in his Senior season, he even led UCLA in assists with 5.5 assists per game as a CENTER.

The 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 concluded Sunday night after a 4 hour weather delay with Team Penske driver, Josef Newgarden, winning for the 2nd time in his career & in as many years. Newgarden becomes the first back to back winner since 2001-2002 when Helio Castroneves achieved the same feat.

Newgarden and Arrow McLaren driver, Pato O’ Ward, went back and forth for the last 10-15 laps or so, before Newgarden passed O’Ward in turn 3 of the final lap to hold on for a victory finish.

Newgarden led 26 out of 200 laps on the day, the 4th most by an Indy 500 winner in the last 10 years.
